I decided to do something a little bit different for you ladies today. I selected several bird facts and applied scripture to them, so that we might see how wise these little creatures really are. In so doing, I was reminded anew that God always has big lessons for us in the smallest things of nature! May the Lord speak to you today through these "bird lovers Bible verses".... 1. Use the talents you possess, for the woods would be silent if only the birds with the best voices sang. 1 Peter 4:10, "As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God." 2. Birds form flocks - to help find food and protect themselves from predators. Hebrews 10:25, "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching." 3. Chickadees appear to be fast fliers, but their top speed is only 15 mph. Matthew 7:22-23, “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? [23] And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” 4. Before birds begin to migrate, they undergo metabolic changes that produce large amounts of fat reserves. Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." 5. Birds have keen sight and hearing, but most do not have well-developed senses of smell, taste or touch. 2 Peter 3:18, "But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen." 6. Most birds eat during the day and sleep at night. But some, like mourning doves, take short naps during the day. Proverbs 20:13, “Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.” 7. Cardinals eat grapes and use strips of the vine’s bark to build their nests. John 15:5, "I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing." 8. Green herons have been observed using bait - including commercial fish bait, feathers, flies, insects, twigs and moss - to lure fish. Mark 1:17, "And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men." 9. Male indigo buntings' plumage changes from a brilliant blue to a modest brown after the breeding season. 1 Tim. 2:9, "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;" 10. American goldfinch nests are so tightly woven they can actually hold water. Proverbs 20:5, "Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out." 11. Finches prefer to eat from feeders located near eye level. Psalm 131:1, "Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me." 12. No bird flies faster than the peregrine falcon, which has been clocked at 175 mph. Rev. 22:20, "He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus." 13. A woodcock's eyes are set so far back in its head that it has a 360 degree field of vision. John 4:35, "Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest." 14. Many birds sleep with one eye open so predators cannot approach without being seen. 1 Peter 4:7, "But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer." 15. The red-bellied woodpecker has also been called the zebra woodpecker, the cham-chack and the ramshack. Acts 4:12, "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." 16. The body temperature of a bird averages 106 degrees - about 7 degrees warmer than humans. Rev. 3:15-16, "I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth." 17. When snow buntings arrive early to their winter grounds, it supposedly is a sign of severe weather ahead. Proverbs 22:3, "A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished." 18. In cold weather, a chickadee eats 20 times more than it does in warm weather. Jeremiah 15:16, "Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts." 19. To better survive winters, birds that live in cold climates are usually larger than their counterparts in warmer climates. 2 Tim. 2:3, “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.” 20. Faith is a bird that sings while it's still dark. Job 35:10, "But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;" 21. The mockingbird is so named because it imitates the songs of nearly 100 other birds instead of singing its own tune. Luke 21:8, "And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them." 22. Barn swallows are estimated to travel more than 500 miles in a day as they gather food for their young. Proverbs 31:14, “She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.” In conclusion, ladies, as you gain insight from the Word of God through the creature of the bird, why not share these tidbits of wisdom with others? When they inquire as to how you learned these things, you can simply inform them that a little bird told you! God Bless, |
